5 tips Creating an effective business card

Business cards provide a first impression when clients don't have the time to speak with you one on one. They should represent what your brand is about, display aspects of personality and have leave a lasting impression on whomever picks it up. In this blog post, I will be referring to websites to breakdown what rules they share in common to create an effectively designed business card.

1. Design for your audience.

A CG artist that has a number of skills to display, you could consider using the front of your business card for one venture and your back for another- these can compliment each other if they are loosely connected. For example, a computed generated image on one side and on the other the breakdown of the character design to represent that I create the characters myself as well as model them in CG- demonstrating 2 skills.

2. A clear positioning statement

"Creating a compelling positioning statement that establishes an emotional connection with your brand should be kept as the primary focus in which your business card is built around."

3. A simple layout

Do not overcrowd your business card- give your client some thinking space. Cards can look dated when overcrowded leading to clients not wanting to pick them up. This can make your business card stand out and allows the clients to make references if necesscary on the card itself.

4. Card style

Not every business card has the have the same stereotypical size, shape and orientation. To make your business card stand out more consider using a mix of orientations- one for your images and one for your logo to get your client looking closer at your card. Also, using fnishing options such as embossing, foils, folds and so on. However, keep it streamlined and quick to call on.

5. Stick to one or two colours.

Too many colours can be offensive to the eye and will not make a potential client want to investigate further. The card should be easy on the eye and state the basics. The idea is to keep the person who has your business want to access your site. Make these colours eye catching but do not over complicate it.
