Main points for creating a successful website

In 2017, coming into contact with websites is a daily thing. We spend hours and hours everyday clicking through them with our minds still being able to acknowledge the difference between good and bad design. So what is it exactly that makes 1 website better than another, and why is it that our minds appreciate certain layouts more than others?

"Grid Theory"

"Grids are like the glue that holds a design together"- http://www.creativebloq.com/web-design/grid-theory-41411345

Although grids are often associated to be useful in areas such as architecture and mathematics, they are also helpful when creating a layout design. However this is more than just making objects line up with each other, they are used to help determine and define proportion. The idea is that by using the grid system, your layout with be automatically more aesthetically pleasing, your audience will unconsciously be drawn to headings and able to navigate and retain the website better.

"Keep it Simple"

Although it is very tempting to pile your website with bright colourful images, animations and dramatic fonts- this SHOULD be avoided. This could over-whelm your prospects. These principles relate back to grid theory, with designshack.net stating that "These principles include choosing and sticking to an alignment, structuring your whitespace properly and highlighting important elements through size, positioning, etc." Try to achieve something that breaks the mould, however if this seems unachievable then you must insure that your website is clean, useable and professional.
