Character

designs

Early concepts:

I wanted to try out different styles for the original concept of the chicks, I needed a style to entice children and bring feelings to the adult audiences. They needed to look vulnerable with attitudes to contrast this. Their faces needed room for bold expressions, their bodies varied in shapes and sizes whilst still holding that baby chick silhouette.

Development stages:

Once the style was decided, exploration was needed to create variations of the character. The features needed to be designed with the ability to be animated. Features such as eyebrows would help the face create more emotion. Large eyes were decided as they would engage the audience. and too, are good outlets for emotion. Adding big feet opened the door for comedy for the animators whilst also telling of the characters age.
